Frontman Greg Gonzalez joins The Doors live for their 60th anniversary at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, October 30
Cigarettes After Sex have returned with a brand new double single, featuring the original track “Anna Karenina” and a dreamy cover of The Doors’ classic “The Crystal Ship.” Out today via Partisan Records, the release marks the band’s first new music since their acclaimed 2024 album X’s and offers a glimpse into both their evolving sound and signature romantic melancholy.
“Anna Karenina”: A Cinematic Confession
The B-side, “Anna Karenina,” is pure Cigarettes After Sex – intimate, slow-burning, and emotionally charged. Frontman Greg Gonzalez delivers hushed, vulnerable vocals layered over ambient guitars, while spoken-word verses introduce a new and haunting dimension to the band’s sonic palette. The chorus – “I cried at the end of Anna Karenina, when she threw herself under the train”- feels destined to become one of the band’s most quintessential lines.
A Dreamy Tribute to The Doors
On the A-side, the band pays homage to one of rock’s most enduring groups with a stunning rendition of “The Crystal Ship.” Their reimagining preserves the beauty of Jim Morrison’s original while bathing it in Cigarettes After Sex’s signature atmospheric haze – romantic, fatalistic, and utterly hypnotic.
Fans will soon see that connection come full circle. On October 30, Greg Gonzalez will perform live with The Doors at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles as part of the legendary band’s 60th anniversary celebration.
