Wynonna is entering a powerful new chapter with the announcement of The Hard Truth, her first new solo studio album in ten years and her debut release for ANTI- Records. Arriving October 2, the deeply personal project finds the country music icon reflecting on heartbreak, healing, faith, survival, grief, and reinvention with a level of honesty she says she has never brought to a record before.
The album’s lead single, “Kentucky Queen,” brings Wynonna back to her childhood roots, reclaiming her Kentucky upbringing through a triumphant, roots-driven sound. The accompanying music video was filmed in her home state and features beloved Churchill Downs bugler Steve Buttleman, further tying the track to the culture, history, and emotional pull of Kentucky.
The Hard Truth marks the first time Wynonna has co-written an entire album, with producer, drummer, and husband Cactus Moser helping shape the record’s raw, stripped-down sound. Unlike the lush production that defined many of her earlier recordings, this album places Wynonna’s unmistakable voice at the center, allowing the weight of her story and the emotional force of the songs to come through with clarity.
“I’ve spent a lifetime singing about heartbreak, healing, faith, and survival, but I’ve never made a record like this one,” Wynonna explained. “These songs tell the truth about where I’ve been, what I’ve lost, what I’ve overcome, and who I’ve become. This album asked me to be brave enough to tell the truth—even when my voice shook. It challenged me to let go of perfectionism and embrace the beauty of honest emotion. My hope is that when you hear these songs, you feel what I was feeling while writing and recording them. If they help someone feel seen, understood, or a little less alone, then every hard truth was worth telling.”
The 11-track project also features a strong lineup of guest collaborators, including Patterson Hood of Drive-By Truckers, Iron & Wine, and The War and Treaty. Together, the songs explore sorrow, resilience, love, loss, and the choice to keep moving forward in the face of life’s hardest truths.
Wynonna has been a defining voice in country music since her teenage years, when “Mama He’s Crazy” became the first of eight consecutive No. 1 singles with her mother Naomi as The Judds. After launching her solo career in 1991, she continued her success with chart-topping singles, multi-platinum albums, and performances on some of the world’s biggest stages, including the Super Bowl halftime show, the Kentucky Derby, and The Oprah Winfrey Show.

In support of The Hard Truth, Wynonna will spend the summer touring with Melissa Etheridge, with select dates also featuring Maggie Rose and Madeline Edwards. She will also return to Kentucky for a special run of hometown-state shows, including an October 2 performance at the Paramount Arts Center in Ashland, Kentucky, on the album’s release day.
The Hard Truth is available to pre-save now, with limited-edition vinyl and CD offerings also available through Wynonna’s webstore.
