Most significantly, Jewel’s debut album, and one of my favorite albums of all time, Pieces of You, was released 25 years ago on February 28 in 1995. Pieces of You was recorded on Neil Young’s ranch, and included his backing band, The Stray Gators. Pieces of You remained on the Billboard 200 albums chart for two years and granted Jewel Top 10 hits including platinum-certified singles “You Were Meant for Me,” “Who Will Save Your Soul” and “Foolish Games.” Pieces of You sold over twelve million copies and became certified 12x platinum.
Jewel founder her own music label Words Matter Media and partnered a distribution and marketing deal with The Orchard (Sony). “No More Tears” is her first release from the partnership. She is currently in the studio working on the final touches for her next full-length studio album, featuring new material including “No More Tears.” The song was written by Jewel for the documentary Lost In America, which has landed in theaters across the US and Canada beginning in Los Angeles on February 28, 2020. The music video itself features scenes from the documentary, and the documentary takes a national in-depth look at the issue of youth homelessness in America, specifically highlighting the main issues that surround it, such as sex trafficking, the failure of the foster care system, and rejection of LGBTQ youth. The documentary was written, produced and directed by former homeless youth Rotimi Rainwater, Jewel and Rosario Dawson are the film’s executive producers.
Also featured in the documentary are Tiffany Haddish, Jon Bon Jovi, Halle Berry, Sanaa Lathan, and many more. Mike C. Manning, Steven V. Vasquez Jr., Jorge Rivera and Brent C. Johnson produced the film, sponsored by Las Vegas Sands. The film is being distributed by Indican Pictures.
“Being youth and homeless is obviously an issue that is very close to my heart and this documentary is very personal to me, and why I chose to be a producer and get involved,” said Jewel. “I am honored to have written and performed this song for the documentary LOST IN AMERICA and to help bring awareness to this epidemic.”
