Mumford & Sons have announced details for their upcoming album release

Mumford & Sons have announced details of their forthcoming album, Delta, due out on November 16. This is the fourth release for the multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning band, and is out on Gentleman of the Road/Glassnote Records. The album was written collectively by the band, produced by Paul Epworth, and recorded at London’s The Church Studios. Listen to the album’s first single, “Guiding Light,” here.

To celebrate the upcoming album release and their new single, the band will perform “Guiding Light” on NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” this Monday, September 24 with Marcus Mumford will also join the host as a guest on the couch. Additionally, the band will head out on a sixty-wide worldwide arena tour beginning later this year, and full tour details will be revealed on Oct. 4. Pre-order your own copy of Delta here.

It’s been ten years since the group has their debut, and this is their first release since 2015’s Wilder Mind, which debuted at number one in the U.S., U.K., Australia, Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands and Norway, including 2016’s collaborative Johannesberg EP. Their previous LPs are 2012’s Babel (2013 Grammy Album of the Year) and their 2009 debut, Sigh No More.

Within Temptation announce new album, and drop new single ‘The Reckoning’

Within Temptation, fronted by lead singer, Sharon den Adel, have recently signed a worldwide deal with Universal Music Germany, including partnering with Spinefarm Records for North American and the UK. This joint venture comes ahead of the band’s new album, Resist, scheduled for release on December 14, 2018.

This new album features a different vision than other records from Within Temptation’s past, including ten anthemic tracks, featuring ethereal melodies with unforgettable hooks.

“Resist is a true milestone for us. If it wasn’t for Resist, Within Temptation wouldn’t be here anymore,” the band stated.

“With this record, we’ve taken inspiration from modern music and gave it a face — a very dark one,” said singer Sharon den Adel. “Sometimes, it feels that today’s pop music lacks a rebellious edge. Our main goal was to collect pieces from sounds we did like and roughen it up as much as we could, resulting in a surprisingly new musical world that is heavier, dirtier and more futuristic than we’ve ever created before. Resist is our take on metal in a new way: to give modern music its rebellious edge.”

Within Temptation have previously released six studio albums since 1997, and sold more than 3.5 million records, and are known as one of the worlds most successful heavy rock groups. The band has received numerous international awards, including a World Music Award, MTV Europe Music Awards, a Metal Hammer Award, among many others. Their last album, Hydra (2014), landed in the top ten of the album charts in ten countries, and held the sixteenth spot on the American Billboard chart, heralding the band’s most successful US-release to date, with a sold-out US tour.

The band’s European tour kicks off in October, with 35 dates in 18 countries. More dates will be announced soon for around the globe and into 2019.

Paul McCartney’s Egyptian Station reaches number one on Billboard 200

Paul McCartney’s Egypt Station (Capitol Records) has entered the Billboard 200 at #1, making it the third Non-Beatles/Wings McCartney effort to top the U.S. chart and Paul’s first Stateside #1 since 1982’s Tug Of War. Earning 153,000 equivalent album units, Egypt Station is Paul’s first solo album to enter the chart at #1. Since beginning a new and profound direction on his creative journey with the 1970 release of his debut solo album, McCartney, Paul has sold over 100 million albums and singles worldwide.

The 18-time GRAMMY® winner launched Egypt Station with an intimate show at New York City’s Grand Central Station on September 7, which was live streamed as a YouTube Originals concert special–available for viewing HERE. The previous evening, McCartney visited “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and performed his Top 10 AAA hit “Come On To Me.”

Explaining the album’s concept, Paul says, “I liked the words ‘Egypt Station.’… I think of it as a dream location that the music emanates from.” The title is taken from the piece of art featured on the cover, which Paul painted in 1988.

Egypt Station has won praise from critics around the world. In a four-star lead review, Rolling Stone said, “Macca keeps adding new gems to his songbook, with nothing to prove except he’s the only genius who can do this… (And, oh yeah — in his spare time, he happens to still be the greatest live performer on Earth.)” London’s Sunday Times, Q Magazine and MOJO also awarded the album four stars.

GQ reveals “The Untold Stories of Paul McCartney” in the magazine’s October cover story. Writer Chris Heath observed, “Paul McCartney is driven….If you imagine that by now McCartney might have reached the point where he would relax and look back with cozy satisfaction on his life’s achievements… well, then you’re already very wrong about both who Paul McCartney is and who he ever was.” In this accompanying video, McCartney breaks down his most iconic songs. Additionally, Spotify has announced the release of Paul McCartney & Spotify Singles: Under the Staircase. Recorded at Paul’s intimate Abbey Road Studio 2 gig earlier the summer, Under the Staircase features live versions of songs spanning Paul’s entire career—Beatles, Wings, solo catalogue numbers plus some of the first live performances of Egypt Station material—plus a feature length concert film.

The Ultra premiere and talk new single ‘Look Like Kylie,’ writing and creating music, more

Today, Sept. 7, the pop-rock band The Ultra have released their new and upbeat single, “Look Like Kylie.” Stream and purchase the single here.  This single is the follow-up to their previously released single, “Getaway,” from their upcoming EP. The band are currently on tour following their recent partnership with iHeart Media, Pepsi and Foxwoods Resort Casino. The guys have also been nominated for 4 New England Music Awards, including “Rock Act of the Year,” “Live Act of the Year,” “Song of the Year” and “Video of the Year.” The band is made up of Alec MacGillivray on vocals, Sam August on guitar, Shaq Druyan on drums and Pat Lyons, playing bass.

You guys came together by happenstance and by a series of events that brought you all together…what’s the ride been like?

The Ultra: It’s been a pretty wild ride so far. Since forming the group, we’ve fought through a really interesting set of adversities together which has really helped build a strong bond between us. Alec had jaw surgery in December that took him out of commission until April, Sam was earning his Master’s Degree at Harvard, Pat was working full time and Shaq was at Berklee, all while writing the debut EP, the current singles. We really wanted this band to happen, and we worked extremely hard to keep it together. I think that is something that is really important, knowing that every member of the group is willing to fight for the music.

Your new single, “Look Like Kylie” is out today! What’s the story behind it, and what influenced you guys to write it?

The Ultra: “Look Like Kylie” is, at its core, a song about being cool with who you are. Life isn’t perfect like it is on Instagram, and that’s fine. Life is imperfect and that’s the beauty of it. Just looking around seeing everybody glued to their phones, we just want to remind people to come back to earth and enjoy themselves.

You guys have a very busy schedule…how do you guys keep all of your other endeavors successful along with performing and creating music?

The Ultra: That’s the golden question I guess, right? I mean, we struggle with keeping it all together, just like everybody does in their own lives. I think the key is just being efficient with our time together, making sure we get done what we need to, which like I mentioned, we are DEFINITELY still working on.

You all have been writing and creating new music. Is a new album in the works?

The Ultra: Yeah, we are stoked! We are currently in the process of writing for the record, which we’re going to do with our current producer Courtney Ballard in LA. Coach is one of our favorite dudes on earth. Working with him is an absolute blast and, in our opinion, the songs sound the best they possibly can with him in the chair.

What’s next for 2018, going into 2019?

The Ultra: Next going into 2019, we are going to be pumping out new music. As a group, we are loving what we’re cooking up right now, and we’re really excited to share it with everyone as soon as possible.

Five Fun Questions

Who was your first concert, and do you have a current overall favorite?

Alec MacGillivray: First concert was Backstreet Boys I think? Best concerts I’ve recently been to were Harry Styles and U2.

What was your first album on vinyl, cassette and/or CD?

Alec: My Dad always had a kicking rotation of CD’s going in the car. Anything from Joe Strummer to Velvet Revolver or The White Stripes to George Straight. I got a really cool variety pretty early.

Which five albums or artists would you not want to live without? 

Alec: Contraband – Velvet Revolver, American Idiot – Green Day, Streetcore – Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros, A Little South of Sanity (Live Album) – Aerosmith, and the fifth rotates, every day I’m feeling something different but those first 4 are the rocks for me.

What song can you not get enough of lately?

Alec: I have been absolutely ripping all things Oasis recently. Cannot get enough of it. The Oasis albums, Noel’s High-Flying Birds’ albums, and Liam’s new album too. Playing, listening, and singing them all the time right now.

Do you have guilty music or entertainment pleasure?

Alec: I don’t really get the whole musical guilty pleasures thing. If it’s good stuff, its good stuff, right? I feel like people are always saying boy bands or Taylor Swift or something like that as an answer here. One Direction have some amazing stuff, 1989 from Taylor Swift was fire, and good music is good music. It’s okay to say you like something you like, if you think something is dope, say so!

Courtney Cooper

Indie-pop singer, Courtney Cooper, talks new album, production, more

Indie-pop musician and songwriter, Courtney Cooper, has just released her recent EP, WAVES, out now. The Brooklyn-based musician evokes raw and passionate soul through her music, and was most evident in her recently released singles of “Cosmos,” “Vibes” and “Damn” featured from WAVES. Having been delved into the music scene since a young girl, Cooper attended the acclaimed Berklee College of Music at age 17, and their discovered she had a passion for recording. After Berklee, she relocated to NYC to pursue her music career full-time, and then began writing and recording her own lyrics and melodies, which then would become her first full-length album, The Light, released in March 2015.

With Waves, Cooper explores themes and lyrics that push her boundaries, and found her collaborating with critically lauded artist and producer, Jacoo.

Cooper chats with us about WAVES, producing with Jacoo, her time at Berklee and our famous music favorites she gives us insight to.

You just released your anticipated new EP, after releasing a trio of singles from it. How long was the writing and recording process of Waves?

Courtney Cooper: It took about six months to write and record, and another three months to mix and master. A lot of people don’t know this, but I actually finished this project a full year ago. Everything was ready to go at the end of last August. For a lot of reasons I waited until now to release it–mostly because I wanted to space out the singles and have everything come out while it was still summer.

What about NYC draws you to create and record your music there?

Courtney:Ironically, I wrote this album as kind of a longing for LA. I spent a few years living there and moved back just in time for winter where I live on the waterfront in Brooklyn. As I was writing the album, staring out my window looking at snow falling on the East River, I daydreamt of tropical paradise. Those reveries became the songs that make up the album.

How did you meet and get involve with your producer Jacoo?

Courtney: We met on the internet! I’d been a fan of his music and reached out to him on Soundcloud. Our collaboration was virtual since he is in Norway, but he is so great and very easy to work with.

Reflecting back on your time at Berklee, what’s the most profound experience you recall during your time there?

Courtney: Being constantly surrounded by some of the most amazingly talented teachers and students was magical. I learned so much musically,  and built such an incredible drive and fire within me to constantly be practicing and working to better myself. There will never be another time in my life where I am truly surrounded by people who all share the same love for music in the same way.

Do you plan to tour for this EP, or what’s next? 

Courtney: Yes! I plan on doing shows in NY, LA, & hopefully some festivals. I’m also working on new music!

Who was your first concert? Do you have an overall favorite, so far?

Courtney: My first concert ever was N’Sync when I was in high school! I went to high school in Maine where the nearest mall was over 45 minutes away, so we didn’t have many opportunities to see shows there. I’ve seen a lot of concerts since then…hard to say a favorite, but Lady Gaga at MSG was amazing—she is such an incredible performer. Top of my list for favs: Gallant at Music Hall of Williamsburg, Prince at MSG, Jessie Wareat Brooklyn Steel, Fiona Apple at Bowery Ballroom, and Greenday when they played the Studio at Webster Hall.

Who or what has been the most profound impact on your music and songwriting?

Courtney: My long time music mentor Normand Kurtz. When I went to Berklee I was studying music production/engineering and vocal performance ,and never thought about songwriting. It never even occurred to me as something I could do. Normand really pushed me to give it a try and all these years later I’m still writing songs!

What was your first album on CD, cassette and/or vinyl?

Courtney: When I was younger my mom gave me her old cassette collection. I remember it so vividly—she gave me this old brown leather briefcase looking thing that held what must have been her old collection. I remember it was full, but only remember listening to one. Whitney Houston’s self-titled album with “The Greatest Love of All.”

Dawes share poolside version of new single ‘Feed the Fire’

Today, Dawes debuted a poolside performance of their second single, “Feed The Fire,” featured on their recently released sixth studio album, Passwords. Lead singer and songwriter, Taylor Goldsmith shares that the song is “about telling myself that the next bit of validation/attention I’ve been looking for is all I finally need to feel ‘okay,’ while also being aware that to attain any sort of actual peace/enlightenment then I should be trying to shed myself of that need/egocentric thinking in the first place, and the juxtaposition therein … so that made us think, “Then why don’t we perform it in front of a beautiful SWIMMING POOL?!?”

Dawes begins their extensive North American tour, kicking off at St. Paul’s Palace Theatre on Sept. 7, with recently wrapping a series of dates opening for Jeff Lynne’s ELO, with shows at NYC’s Madison Square Garden and LA’s The Forum. Dawes’ upcoming tour, titled “An Evening With Dawes: Passwords Tour,” will features two full sets of music performed by the band with no opener. Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased here. My Silent Bravery

My Silent Bravery discusses his EP trilogy, his new music video for ‘Everyday Is the Weekend’ & tour

Indie artist, My Silent Bravery, is the music project by Matthew Wade developed after suffering a sports injury. My Silent Bravery is Wade’s way of spreading positivity through the power of music. My Silent Bravery has been releasing his music projects since 2007, and has teamed up with award-winning producers Mike Mangini, Peter Zizzo, Anthony Resta, Warren Huart and currently Jim McGorman, with his latest project, Willing to Try. Three songs from Willing to Try landed on the Billboard charts, with his last single “18” landing the eighth spot at Digital Rock Song Sales, twenty-eighth spot on Hot Rock Songs Chart, and forty-sixth on the Emerging Artist chart. Being an independent artist has fared him well, as his populary and fan-base continue to grow.

You’re in the midst of releasing a planned trilogy of EPs. What led to releasing a trilogy of music?

My Silent Bravery: Yes! The new album is called Willing to Try, which I co-wrote with my good friend Jim McGorman (Gwen Stefani, Avril Lavigne, Goo Goo Dolls). The album features twelve tracks and it will be released in 3 separate EPs over 2018. The first 2 EPs are out, and Chapter 1 features three Billboard hit singles! Sonically, the new songs blend modern synths and keyboards along with acoustic guitars and atmospheric electrics. The theme and title of the full body of work is called ‘Willing to Try’ so I felt that I wanted to try different things than I had before. I am usually a full-length LP kind of guy so the trilogy was an example of being “Willing to Try” something new!

Are there plans for a full-length album soon?

MSB: Yes! There is another full-length album in the works that will be released after Willing to Try most likely in 2019. I haven’t figured out exactly how I will release it yet, but there is a whole new batch of songs on the way!

Do you have any familial history with music? Were you around music from when you were little?

MSB: I don’t have a big familial history with music. Like most, music was always playing in the background and there are some songs and artists that make up the soundtrack of my life along with my family. Growing up I remember my parents took me to a couple concerts when I was 8. We saw Billy Joel and Huey Lewis and the News, and I think I fell asleep at both concerts! (laughs) I also had a lot of friends growing up that turned me onto music. My friend Kristen gave me my first mixtape in high school, I think the kids now call them playlists, and it really turned me on to good songwriting. I think that mixtape really planted a seed that song writing was something I was interested in.

I love how you state that each song “has its own story and inspiration.” With that being said, what’s your songwriting process like?

MSB: I write the majority of my songs on the guitar. I usually come up with a chord progression that feels good and that is somehow inspiring to me. Then, I’ll come up with a melody for the lyrics over that. Usually, the lyrics are the last thing to come and it’s a lot of refining from there. It’s like putting puzzle pieces together, but it’s an unbelievable feeling when the puzzle is completed.

With your new video for “Everyday Is the Weekend,” I love the concept of the video…was it your idea or a collaboration of both you and the director?

MSB: Thanks so much for the kind words. This concept was brought to my manager Evan and I by Ben Mortemayor and Brad Wong at Ocelot. We had recently finished the “18” video with them and really had a comfort level working with them. I wasn’t fully on board at first, but once we vetted the idea and discussed the treatment I was slowly won over. I really like that it’s so different than other video that I have done before. Its fun and I like the dance sequences too which is something I wasn’t sure I would ever have in a music video of mine.

You’re currently on tour with Saving Abel the remainder of this month and through September. What’s that been like so far, and are there plans for you to tour the US?

MSB: I head out to the UK on Friday for those dates so I am looking forward to some great shows and meeting some awesome new people on the road! I hope to do some fall dates as well when I return, but nothing else on the books just yet.

Which musician(s) has been the most influential to you?

MSB: I would say my biggest musical influence is Bob Marley. I love how he promoted a message of peace and unity with his music. It’s something that I try to adhere to with my music. Also, there is a philosophical, spiritual vibe to a lot of his music and lyrics. I have some of that in my music but built with my own way and beliefs.

What musicians or albums would you not want to live without?

MSB: In addition, I am a big fan of Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, John Mayer, Ed Sheeran, The Police, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, 311, Eminem, Chris Stapleton, and countless others.

What was your first album on CD, cassette and/or vinyl?

MSB: My first album on cassette was Beastie Boys – Licensed to Ill!

What album is currently on rotation in your car, MP3 or phone?

MSB: I have Chris Stapleton From A Room Vol 1 and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ The Getaway in rotation at the moment!

Besides Daniel

Besides Daniel premiere’s new single ‘Long Shot’ from new album, TEEMING, out on Aug. 24

Atlanta based musician Danny Brewer, musically known as Besides Daniel, uses poetic lyricism, emotive lyricism and catharsis in his music. Besides Daniel pulls from his own life lessons and experiences to write his songs, and his previous release, The Marvelous Grief, was featured on NPR, Starbucks and NBC’s Heartbeat. His new album, TEEMING, will release on Aug. 24, 2018, and a recent press release states that “this collection of songs humbly puts into perspective the weight of life lessons, true friendship, the risks of marriage and the triumph of a heart that has healed.” TEEMING was self-produced and recorded by Matt Pethel of Grey Echo Productions just outside of Atlanta.

When asked to describe “Long Shot,” Brewer shares with Talent In Borders that the song “recounts the season of restlessness and adventure that I experienced when I traveled by bicycle over 3000 miles-living on the bike and sleeping in a hammock for almost 3 months.”

He continues explaining that “the refrain of “I am your long shot, You are my sure win” refers to coming to terms with the risks in choosing to love. “I was a risky bet, but she took a long shot”. You can hear the experiences in the lyrics.”

Whose Hat Is This?

Whose Hat Is This? to release new album on Nov. 16

Announced today, Aug. 17, Whose Hat Is This?, a collaboration of Tedeschi Trucks Band members Tim Lefebvre, Tyler “Falcon” Greenwell, J.J. Johnson and Kebbi Williams, will release their second album, Everything’s OK, on Nov. 16. The album will release via Ropeadope.

The band began in 2015 when the bandmates were on a European tour with Tedeschi Trucks Band, and on a day off, decided to get on stage at a jazz club in Berlin, A-Trane, and decided to perform for fun, and all members felt that the needed to pursue this avenue further.

Whose Hat Is This? features Tim Lefebvre on bass (and has collaborated with classic artists like David Bowie (Blackstar), Tyler “Falcon” Greenwell and J.J. Johnson on drums, and Kebbi Williams on saxophone. The group released their self-released same title that was recorded at Berlin’s A-Trane. With their newest effort, Everything’s OK, it was recorded in 2017 at the 8×10 in Baltimore. The album also features Kokayi, along with producer and engineer Geoff Stanfield.

The band will tour in support of Everything’s OK in October and December of this year, with stops in New York and Washington, D.C., with a slew of shows in the South. Full tour dates are listed below.

The Ivy Walls’ Jeff Yanero chat single and music video ‘White Ocean,’ featuring Chris Pine

Los Angeles based music group, The Ivy Walls, released their most recent music video for their single “White Ocean,” from their fourth full-length album, Pheremones. “White Ocean” features popular actor and the group’s friend, Chris Pine. Inspired by the new wave sounds of the 80s, the band’s music is ethereal, sometimes melancholy, yet pristine.

We chatted with Jeff Yanero (J), who provides vocals, guitar and piano about their friendship with Chris Pine, and what it was like filming the video for “White Ocean,” the making of their new album, his music and band favorites, and much more.

How did you guys get connected with Chris Pine for your new video and single, “White Ocean”?

Jeff Yanero: We met Chris years ago while we were a young band playing around Hollywood before our first tour. He and some of our mutual friends would be at our shows as far back as the Indie 103 days all they way into the Silverlake and Spaceland scenes.

It was after making the video for getaway driver with Will Joines that we really embraced the idea of our music being cinematic and that really influenced the way we approached recording our next album Dirty Passionate Daydreaming.

So when it came time to shoot the video for “All I want” who better to play a Godard inspired character than our friend who is one of the most talented actors on the planet? So we were lucky enough to have this amazing experience of making a beautiful music video with all of our actor/artist friends (including Will Joines again, Robert Baker, and Seth Ayott) who had been supporting us for years on the music scene. That’s really how it all started.

As for “White Ocean,” early on in the making of Pheromones I would sometimes send rough mixes to a trusted few people and Chris was on that list. We had bounced around the idea of making another video several times throughout the process and as often happens right when we started to think our schedules wouldn’t line up things came together and we made it happen again.

Who’s idea was it for the theme of the video for “White Ocean”?

Jeff: I had been a fan of New York photographer Michael Donovan for years and as he and I were having phone conversations and being conceptual there was a perfect storm brewing between us. This record started with The Count and I recording a Cold Wave inspired 90’s/New York themed song called “We Were Beautiful” and that was supposed to spearhead a group of songs in that same vein. But instead what it became was a record riddled with dark LA undertones. So I think in Michael I was still chasing that dose of New York that had eluded me early on and on the other hand maybe Michael was ready for a taste of California. I believe ultimately the first idea he and I settled on was “Detox LA”. Just the process of shedding something. From there it naturally evolved into a more layered idea.

We didn’t want to compete with the “All I Want” video so from the start our focus was going to be on intimacy.

Once Chris and Ema got on set and filled the space there was this ethereal element that crept in as well that we all just sort’ve naturally embraced.

We were also very lucky to have our editor Kevin Napier who did such a wonderful job of bringing these elements together in a manner that suited the dreaminess of the music.


Why did you guys release “White Ocean” as the first single?

Jeff: “White Ocean” was actually the second single. The first was “Kiss or Kill.” We held back White Ocean for the purposes of the video. We knew the way schedules were lining up that the video would come after the release of the record.

You guys recently released your fourth full-length album, Pheromones. Tell us about the production and making of it…

Jeff: We’ve been around through several evolutions of alternative music and I think the main difference between this one and our records from the past is that most of these songs were born in apartments to computers. So many of our songs before this were a result of working out ideas together in the rehearsal room but some of the core songs on this record started with Rodrigo and I or RV sending reverb drenched tracks back and forth and working on them separately until they started to resemble a song. From there we went straight to the studio with them rather than playing them live.

I really dig your ethereal sound…where do you mainly draw your inspiration from?

Jeff: Thank you. I think a lot of bands we came up with site a lot of the same influences. And I’m happy to be a part of the generation that re-discovered Slowdive and put them back on tour where they belong. All of those great bands like Ride, Slowdive, MBV, JMC, The Stone Roses, Echo and the Bunnymen, etc. I also love Elizabeth Frasier and listening to her sing words I can feel but can’t understand. She and Robin Guthrie both will always be two of my favorite musicians.

Being drawn to artists like that I’m sure contributes to an etherealism in our sound but at the same time Ryan consumes a lot of different music and is very prolific. One of my favorite things about him is that you never know what’s going to come flying out. Rodrigo and I tend to be a little more calculated in our intentions so there’s a balance there.

 Aside from the instruments each of you play, are there any other ones you play?

Jeff: We’ve been a creative family for so long that we don’t have any hang ups about who does what in that regard. Ryan writes a lot on bass these days and The Count played a ton of guitar for this record. In fact a lot of the core songs on this record started with The Count on guitar and he and I trading sessions back and forth. So there is a lot of trading duties. But I think the real answer to the question is that I love when Adam plays trumpet. We had a song from The Elegant Universe that we used to play live called “Soon” and he would come from behind the kit and stand next to me. He also played on “She was European” I’ve always found his playing so elegant and charming.

What’s next for you guys; a tour to promote the album perhaps?

Jeff: The first thing we did once this record was finished was get together and play our old songs (laughs). Hopefully that’s not a bad sign but I think we just needed to reconnect on that level before we turned these songs into their live versions.

So we’ve been working on that for a fall west coast tour, have broken ground on some new material, and working on some smaller video and moving collage projects.
