Some Kind Of Lucky, the band’s seventh studio album, features The Jellybricks’ previously released Big Star-influenced road song “Brooklyn” and swirling call-and-response rocker “DOA,” which both grabbed Coolest Song in the World status on Van Zandt’s Underground Garage radio show earlier this year. Produced by The Jellybricks, the 12-song album was recorded at various studios on the east coast, including Van Zandt’s own Renegade Studios in NYC, and mixed by engineer Geoff Sanoff, whose credits include notable work with Bruce Springsteen, Fountains of Wayne and Dashboard Confessional. A rock group in the classic two guitars-bass-drums tradition, The Jellybricks (Larry Kennedy [guitar, vocals], Garrick Chow [bass, vocals], Bryce Connor [guitar, vocals], Tom Kristich [drums, vocals]) began as a vehicle for Larry Kennedy’s original songs in the mid-’90s but has steadily evolved over seven releases into a four-headed collaboration with all four members writing and singing lead. The Harrisburg, Pennsylvania-based quartet’s hook-laden songs owe debts of inspiration to decades of melodic rock ‘n’ roll from the ’60s British invasion through ’70s punk, ’80s college rock and ’90s alternative. Van Zandt began taking notice in recent years, elevating their 2012 track “Rock ‘n’ Roll Suicide” to Coolest Song in the World Status. The song was later voted by listeners as “Coolest Song of 2012,” beating out tracks from Aerosmith, Bruce Springsteen, Jack White, and others. In the wake of heavy airplay on SiriusXM and syndicated terrestrial radio over the years, The Jellybricks signed to Wicked Cool at the dawn of 2019. Their mélange of styles is all in keeping with the band’s longtime ethos, as Kennedy explains. “The Jellybricks name was always intended to allow us to be as loud or as aggressive or as dark as we wanted, or to be as soft, as sentimental, or as silly as we wanted to be too. Fionn Regan’s new album Cala out now on Abbey Records

Acclaimed Irish musician Fionn Regan’s sixth album, Cala, is out now on Abbey Records. Listen/share the record here: https://orcd.co/fionnregancala. Additionally, his song “Riverside Heights” premiered on FLOOD Magazine yesterday who said, “Over sparse Spanish guitar, Regan’s voice gently sets the scene of a warm summer night. With hardly more than backing harmonies and twinkling keys gracing each chorus, the song is quite peaceful…”

Cala, named after the Spanish word for creek, continues to receive widespread acclaim—The Times proclaims, “The Irish singer returns to the spectral soundscapes and vivid, impressionistic lyrics that made his debut so haunting and beautiful,” while MOJO adds, “Regan’s typically poetic sixth album conjures a singular, almost meditative mood via fingerpicked guitars and subtle cinematic textures. His honorary membership of the Trinity College Literary Society is fully justified throughout.”

The ten-song album was performed entirely by Regan and was written at his home in Bray, on Dublin’s coastal outskirts, which might partly explain Cala’s recurring imagery: stars, moon, ocean and sun. “The album does have fundamentally elemental, visual components,” he notes. “I wouldn’t mind knowing why! It’s a mystery to me, how songs evolve. Thankfully, they do. But I’ve never got anywhere when I’ve tried to work it out.” Regan concedes, “the place you’re from continues to resonate.”

Cala is similarly drawn from intuition, rooted in acoustic guitar as well as piano, and atmospherics. As Regan hears it, “[Atmospherics are] sparse cinematic moments, like a super-eight movie.” He furthers, “A kickdrum here, a footstamp there, some slight modern twists influenced by the time period we’re in. I’ve not overthought it much. I hope the songs can shine in that way. The song comes first, then the sonic palate, then the words give a sense of place, or landscape.”

Born in Bray, Ireland, Regan rose to prominence with the release of his 2006 debut album, The End of History, which was followed by the release of his 2017 album, The Meetings of the Waters. Over the course of his career, Regan has been nominated for the Choice Music Prize in Ireland, the Mercury Prize in the U.K., the Shortlist Music Prize in the U.S. and is an honorary member of the Trinity College Literary Society. Additionally, his song “Abacus” was sampled by Justin Vernon on “00000 Million” from Bon Iver’s 22, A Million. The pair have since met and worked together in Berlin.

Stryper frontman Michael Sweet to release new album, ‘Ten,’ on October 11

Building upon the success of his 2016 release One Sided War, Stryper front man Michael Sweet returns with his tenth solo studio release aptly titled, Ten. The new album is scheduled for release in North America on October 11th via Rat Pak Records and will also be available in Europe via Frontiers Music SRL. Ten features an all-star guest lineup that includes appearances by Jeff Loomis of Arch Enemy, Todd La Torre of Queensrÿche, Andy James, Tracii Guns of LA Guns, Rich Ward of Fozzy, Joel Hoekstra of Whitesnake, Gus G of Firewind, Howie Simon, Ethan Brosh, Marzi Montazeri, Will Hunt of Evanescence , John O’Boyle, Mike Kerr and Ian Raposa of Firstbourne and more.

On the subject of guest musicians Michael comments: “There is a different player appearing on every song. Regarding the musical direction of the album Michael states: “I’m very excited about this release, there are old-school, straight-ahead metal ideas in the vein of Judas Priest, Dio and Iron Maiden, all the stuff I love listening to!”

As for the Ten album title, Sweet recently stated, “It’s called ‘Ten’ cause it’s my tenth album, and because there is a title track on there about the Ten Commandments — a really powerful song. There’s real heavy stuff. It starts kind of smacking you in the face and it ends kicking you in the gut.”

Rising London artist Khushi announces debut album, new song ‘This Is, Pt. 1’ out now

Strange Seasons, the debut album from rising London vocalist, songwriter and producer Khushi, is set for release September 13th, on Warner Records. “This Is, Pt. 1,” the third track to be released from the album, is out today—listen here.

Khushi recorded and produced Strange Seasons in a shed in east London over the past six years, pulling from more than a decade of songs and demos. Though Khushi originally released music under his own name in the early years of this decade, he took a several year break to work on other music before returning to this deeply personal project, isolating himself in the shed to find his purest creative expressions. Toward the end of the process, Khushi was introduced to James Blake and contributed writing and production to his acclaimed album Assume Form, Blake in turn mixed Strange Seasons and invited Khushi to join him on his recent North American and U.K. tours as support.

“This Is, Pt. 1” follows previous tracks “From Me” and “Freedom Falls,” which Pigeons & Planes praises for Khushi’s “ear for ambitious, orchestral arrangements.”

Khushi was born and raised in London and lives in Los Angeles. Kirsten Ludwig has announced her new EP, Wasted Time, with the title track out now via Gold Flake Paint. The new single builds on her last build on her last LP for Kathryn Calder’s Oscar St. Records, it’s denser, more complex, than her previous work. Whereas her last record looked focused on the intricacies of lost love, Wasted Time digs into the complexities of being an artist, and specifically a working artist, in our times. Gold Flake Paint says that “‘Wasted Time’ is a declaration of worth, an inwards look to the struggle of the artist. Yet throughout, Ludwig takes these frustrations and moulds them into a track so full of beauty and radiance, her words resonating and her strength insistent.”
