Seventeen year-old singer and songwriter, Kellie-Anne‘s music is poignant and wise beyond her years. Her songs speak of the depth and important substance of the subjects she sings about, including empowering victims of bullying and encouraging those to pursue their lifelong dreams no matter what the circumstances. She has performed in a variety of venues including international music festivals, legendary clubs and open mics. Her music has placed in the top five on Reverbnation with over 20,000 streams on Spotify. Her latest and powerful new single is “Legacy,” which is very close to Kellie-Anne’s heart, as her close family friend, John, lives with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). “Legacy” focuses on the will to live, and to leave an imprint on others before one’s time is up. Kellie-Anne’s rich and searing vocals help stake a claim in the fierce fight to live despite unimaginable circumstances.
The music video for “Legacy,” is true to the song itself, as the “actors” in the video aren’t acting, as her friends and relatives portray a family at home, thrown in the trenches of what ALS causes. Each of them portray realistically well what they have to endure each day to get by. Directed by Kellie-Anne and produced by Rob Fitzgerald, the video also features John sharing his thoughts on the track, and helps drive the song’s emotional connection. The end of the video features how people can get involved to learn more about ALS via ALSA.
We spoke with Kellie-Anne about “Legacy,” the writing for it, directing the music video and ultimately, raising awareness about ALS, and what all of it means to her.
Kellie-Anne premieres “Legacy”:
I love the message and visual emotive that “Legacy” provides in the video that you directed. Please share with us the concept behind the video.
Kellie-Anne: The concept behind this video was to depict typical life struggles that people with ALS have. My goal was to portray family struggles and raise awareness on everything patients and their families struggle with.
What was the creative process like writing “Legacy”?
Kellie-Anne: I began writing legacy through simply lyrics, and used my friend John and his experiences as inspiration. I then went on to playing around with my piano until I found my melody. I wanted to make this song very powerful, yet simple and easy to understand.
The song and music video mean a great deal to you and your family personally. What do you hope viewers and listeners alike take away from with “Legacy”?
Kellie-Anne: I hope that awareness can be raised about ALS. I would like more people to understand the illness and all that it entails, and if this music video and song can do that, then my goal will have been achieved. I hope to also raise money for research purposes, in hopes of finding a cure.
