Debut album, 'Tales of America,' nominated for Best Americana album at 62nd Grammy Awards
Musician J.S. Ondara has confirmed new tour dates supporting The Lumineers in 2020. The show starts in Asheville, NC on January 31, 2020 and will run throughout March. Ondara previously toured heavily for much of 2019, including stellar, sold-out European performances along with a sold-out headlining U.S. tour, and performances at Xponential Festival, Newport Folk Festival and Edmonton Folk Festival, among others. His latest release, Tales of America via Verve Forecast, was recently nominated for Best Americana Album at the 62nd Grammy Awards.
2019 was a stellar year for the singer-songwriter, with his debut album being solely acoustic and produced by Grammy-nominated, Mike Viola, and was received with critical acclaim. He also made his debut on “CBS This Morning: Saturday,” performing his singles “Saying Goodbye,” “Torch Song” and “Lebanon” (featuring Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith from Dawes). Ondara also performed on the “Today Show,” “Live from Here with Chris Thile,” appeared on NPR’s “All Things Considered” and “World Cafe.” He was also featured as a Rolling Stone “Artist You Need To Know.” He also earned a nomination for Best Emerging Act at the 2019 Americana Awards.
Ondara is originally from Nairobi, Kenya and grew up listening to American alt-rock, influenced heavily by the words and music of Bob Dylan, and moving to Minneapolis in 2013 to pursue his dream as a singer-songwriter. Having performed in the local music scene and writing songs, he has also toured with Neil Young, Lindsey Buckingham, Anderson East, First Aid Kit, The Milk Carton Kids, Mt. Joy and The Head & The Heart.
