Jim James, songwriter and musician, solo and with his band My Morning Jacket, has just released his third solo album, Uniform Distortion, out today. The album can be purchased here. There are albums with deluxe bundles featuring limited edition lithographs and clear vinyl, exclusively available here. James released an official music video for the album’s lead single, “Just A Fool,” with a video shot by famed photographer Danny Clinch of James and his band performing the second single, “Throwback.” This video was shot at their first performance at Rough Trade in Brooklyn, NY this past May.

Uniform Distortion is a pivotal album for James, as he was inspired by his album’s cover after looking through The Last Whole Earth Catalogue and noticed a distorted photo of “The Illuminated Man,” by photographer Duane Michals. James liked the photo so much, he asked permission to use the photo from Michals directly, and this led to the two meeting in person. This meeting was documented, where the two discussed artwork, art and life in the digital age and much more via the video below:
James will be having a solo acoustic tour, beginning November 2 with other dates across the United States, with his last show at Louisville, KY’s famous Louisville Palace. His special guest and supporting act will be Alynda Segarra from Hurray for the Riff Raff will be support on all dates. James and his band will be appearing at Los Angeles’ intimate Pico Union celebrating the release of Uniform Distortion on July 18.
One dollar per ticket purchased for the fall acoustic tour will go to The Waterfall Project, whose beneficiaries will be United for A Fair Economy and National Bail Fund Network. For complete details, please visit jimjames.com/events.
