Sonarpilot, given name Michael Moppert, takes complex patterns and rhythms and attempts to push his and our boundaries of perception. He utilizes this approach with music, as music sets a mood. When a mood is set, you are capable of immersion within a subtext of emotions. It’s safe to say time and space has had a profound effect on Sonarpilot and his music. He’s an electronic musician and producer who splits his time in Switzerland and France.
The quintessential progressive, experimenting classic rock icons that were influenced by outer space including Bowie, Pink Floyd, Roxy Music, to Kraftwerk, and Brian Eno, all of whom had a major musical impact on Sonarpilot and his music. Along the way, he carved the name Sonarpilot and developed his own label. Working with London-based producer and label manager, Jonny Miller, they’ve released a number of albums and EPs and counting. Both often collaborate with electronic artists from the UK, North America, and South Africa. 2020 has given Sonarpilot a new vision and passion with his latest effort, The Mirage Project.
The Mirage Project is an incredibly ambitious project from Sonarpilot featuring visually perceptive, computerized images set to his music in the genres of techno, dubstep, jazz, ambient music, progressive rock, with a bit of pop. His music is as substantially diverse and highly stylized as his videos.
From The Mirage Project, is Sonarpilot’s gorgeous new music video for his latest single “Imperium,” in collaboration with filmmaker Roger Mäder. Their stunning visual collaboration has utilized Mäder’s intrinsic artistry with a “mirage” of computer-generated sequences featured in Sonarpilot’s latest video “Imperium.” The ten-minute long video is visually illuminating, hypnotizing, and “is a brilliant trip: a fractal-filled probe into the heart of a geometric city.”
