Singer and songwriter, Katie Belle, is an American Idol alumnus, who recently released her latest single, “Daughter,” written by Jax, Fabien Renoult, Nancy, and Michael Natter and produced by Josquin Des Pres. The single is about “heartbreak, solace, and salvation” as described in her personal bio. In 2021, she worked on a number of singles with her producer, Josquin Des Pres, and is currently in the finalization stage. Her previously released singles in 2020 and 2021 received widespread acclaim. When Katie is not songwriting or doing studio work she is busy as the lead female vocalist for Color the Night. The band plays college campuses, black tie events, and corporate parties.
Growing up Katie was in her 3rd-grade school choir, and by 4th grade, she was performing solo in school plays and church. She wrote her first song by age 12, aptly titled on a hotel napkin “Born For This.” Katie is influenced by a mix of contemporary pop artists, classic rock, and classic country. She’s currently in songwriting sessions in her hometown of Atlanta, LA, and her favorite studio RxSongs in Nashville.
Tell us about your background. How was your upbringing?
Katie Belle: I was born and raised in Georgia, and still currently live there. I had a great childhood, full of neighborhood friends and ice cream in the summer. I would stay outside playing until it was dark and I was obsessed with “Hannah Montana.”
Did you grow up wanting to become a singer?
Katie: I always knew I wanted to be a singer. My dad would always play classic rock when he would drive me and my brother to school. When I was finally old enough to be in the school play, I auditioned and got a lead role. Once I experienced that it was over. Singing was all I wanted to do.
What’s your favorite part of the life of a musician?
Katie: I love traveling for my music and all of the people I get to meet along the way. I like meeting people but I love to connect with them, music has been such a beautiful middle-ground for finding that connection.
Was your experience on “American Idol” the way you imagined it would be?
Katie: Nothing could’ve prepared me for “American Idol.” It was an incredible, indescribable experience. With very high highs and super low lows and I wouldn’t trade it for anything! But I could’ve never known what I was about to walk into (laughs).
What is your dream collaboration?
Katie: Hands down Stevie Knicks or Taylor Swift. I would prefer both.
Tell us about your latest release “Daughter”
Katie: “Daughter” is an incredible song that was written by Jax, Fabien Renoult, Nancy, and Michael Natter and produced by Josquin Des Pres. The first time I heard it, it sent chills down my spine and I knew I had to have it. I went through a terribly nasty breakup when I was about 17 and never quite got it right on how that really made me feel and how deeply that relationship hurt me. When I heard “Daughter” it was like my story was finally being told. All the words I could never find were right there. It’s an amazing song.
What are your upcoming projects?
Katie: I have so much fun stuff happening this year!!!! Including lots of new songs, content, and hopefully, show dates! You can keep up with my music and any other updates on my Instagram!
Keep up with Katie and all of her musical adventures on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter
