Announced on Sept. 7, Sylvan Esso have released their new single, “Funeral Singers,” which is a cover of Califone’s original, featuring the band’s recent tour openers, Collections of Colonies of Bees (Dead Oceans). Listen to the single here. The song was recorded at Wilco’s home studio, The Loft, in Chicago during their summer tour. “Funeral Singers” follows their last single “PARAD(w/m)E,” featured on their Grammy-nominated album, What Now, released on Loma Vista Recordings last year.
As indicated in a recent press release, the song began as a spontaneous collaboration with the two bands, it really shines a light on their deep and meaningful ties – Nick Sanborn was a member of Collections briefly and Chris Rosenau of Collections is a founding member of Justin Vernon’s Volcano Choir who brought Sylvan Esso out on their first tour. Listen and purchase “Funeral Singers” here.
Sylvan Esso are gearing up for their fall festival run beginning later this month, and rounding out their eighteen month What Now album cycle in October at Austin City Limits. Festival dates listed below.
