Singer, actress, host, television and film producer, Kelda Williams, aka., Keldamuzik knew the entertainment business was her calling at the tender age of five years old. That confidence has served her well in all of her endeavors, as she runs her own in-demand entertainment company where she recently screened her first film, Love The Original Way at the Black Hollywood Film Festival. More than a triple-threat, she recently toured with R&B singer Lloyd, shortly afterwards went to the Caribbean to perform in Antigua with reggae singer Jah Cure. She also has countless international radio hits and track licensing deals with Sony Pictures.
Her international hits include “Queen For a Night,” and “Thirsty,” and her frequent collaborator Mrs. Thesis have written another hit track, that evokes feeling good, being comfortable in your own skin, and exudes with sexiness titled “Magic.” The song is featured on her new album, released on her own label Digz Media Group, and produced by LA’s Robot Millenium. The music video for “Magic” features Keldamuzik against a white backdrop, surrounded by her dancers while she blow-kisses iridescent hearts and tiny explosions that hang in mid-air, while she and her lover cuddle in low-light surrounded by stardust. The video was directed by Noel John Bell, known as Nobe of Inf Gang, along with an entire crew hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area. We caught up with Keldamuzik to talk about her creative endeavors, the idea behind “Magic” and its music video, her fun favorites and more.
Not only are you a singer, songwriter, you’re a TV producer, host, actress and film producer. How do each of these satiate your creative aspirations, and what do you take away from each of these creatively and personally?
Keldamuzik: Each one gives me an opportunity to exercise more of my talents. For the TV aspect I produced a show called “Diva Talk Tonite” which allowed me to network with the guests that I would book, and producing films gave me a chance to enter the show biz side of the entertainment industry. As a matter of fact two of my films premiered at the BERC Black Hollywood Film Festival and I got a chance to rub elbows with some of Hollywood’s talented directors and producers.
“Magic” is a sexy, feel-good-in-your-skin song and definitely cathartic from your new album. What was the idea behind it, and what do you do hope you listeners take away from it?
Keldamuzik: The idea behind it was for someone to feel good when this song comes on and to make you dance, and have good vibes. The beat itself just gives you the feeling to get on the dance floor.
Speaking of your new album, what experiences did you draw from to write and record it with producer Robot Millenium?
Keldamuzik: Him and I made several songs together, not quite an album yet but just several singles that we released. Him and I including Mrs. Thesis) (who wrote “Magic”) talked about what most people like to hear in a song, something simple but fun and radio friendly. And yes, we even take personal life experiences and add them to the song. This is my first R&B project, so I needed all the help and advice I could get.
You knew at the age of five that your calling was in entertainment industry. Can you share with us some of your first memories of this calling?
Keldamuzik: Yes I remember my mom would pull me out of school to go to auditions, “I’m like what’s happening here I want to go play with friends?” But once I arrived to the audition, it was like I entered Hollywood. Every girl there looked just like me and we were all auditioning for the same thing. That pretty much showed me how competitive this industry is and you only get one shot at opportunity.
You worked with Noel John Bell, director of the music video for “Magic.” What was that experience like?
Keldamuzik: It was great. He got the job done and made sure that he had enough shots. He even showed me footage after he each take to make sure I was satisfied with the outcome and if I didn’t like it, we would try other ideas or shoot different angles.
