Ukrainian-American singer-songwriter, Yevae, is passionate about conveying her innermost thoughts and feelings through her dance-pop music. She sings about trust, betrayal, mental health, healing, and self-determination, to not only get the crowd jumping up and down, but to also feel the ultimate release of healing and letting go.
With her latest singles and music videos for “Wings,” and “I Run To You,” both are gorgeous and fun dance numbers, yet both contain serious themes; “Wings” shows the struggles between two people for control within their relationship, and “I Run To You,” conveys strength and perseverance when thoughts of suicide creep in, and to keep on pushing on with life, although it’s difficult at times. We had a lovely chat with Yevae about her music love of dance music and her cathartic and relatable lyrics. Check out her powerful music videos for “Wings” and “I Run To You” below.
What draws you to dance music?
Yevae: I love to dance and any beat that makes me move draws me naturally to a song.
Your lyrics are very cathartic, focusing on a number of issues that we all face as human beings; trust, betrayal, mental health, healing, and more. How does it feel for you to express yourself through writing these songs?
Yevae: It is quite intimate for me to share my vulnerabilities and life experiences through my songs, but at the same time it’s a process of healing for me too.

Were you surrounded by a lot of dance music growing up in Ukraine? What was your experience with music growing up?
Yevae: Yes I was surrounded by dance music a lot, I had friends who were into DJing. And overall I was surrounded by different genres of music on a daily basis too – everything from classics to the latest underground beats.
Your latest singles, “Wings,” and “I Run To You,” contain different themes that we all, as a human race, have experienced. What about these songs specifically lyrically and musically, are so special to you?
Yevae: I am writing all my songs based on my life experience, so I would say everything is special to me in particular – I am sharing my stories through each and every song that I write.
Do you have anything planned for you and your through the remainder of the year?
Yevae: Absolutely. There are a few songs to be released, some remixes, some other musical projects are in the works. Stay tuned – follow my insta @yevae_ for all updates.
Fun Questions
Who was your first concert, and who has been your favorite so far?
Yevae: I don’t remember my first concert, most likely it was some kind of a festival with a few famous singers – my mom used to get me out of my shell and take me to those for sure. It’s hard to say who my favorite was, however, I had too much fun with my friends at the Infected Mushroom concert in San Francisco. I love their songs and have been following them since forever.
What was your first album on cassette, CD and/or vinyl?
Yevae: ohhh! Album by Guano Apes – Proud Like a God. It’s still one of my favorites.
Which five albums and/or artists would you not want to live without?
Yevae: Only five? Are you kidding me? That’s tough…
Whitney Houston, Lenny Kravitz, Ella Fitzgerald, Amy Winehouse, Rammstein, Infected Mushroom, Guano Apes, Sarah Vaughan, Slipknot, Avicii, DJ Regard, Adele, Hiromi Uehara, Christina Aguilera…and many more…
Do you have a guilty music and/or entertainment pleasure?
Yevae: I love to binge-watch shows – if I start something I need to finish it.
What have you been reading, watching, and/or listening to lately?
Yevae: I am reading a couple of books now: some on the music and lyrics theory, some on the success of other singer-songwriters, and a couple of psychological books – one of which I truly love and highly recommend “Becoming Bulletproof” by Evy Poumpouras; I just finished watching the first season of the show “Trigger” – it’s a Russian show about non-traditional methods of psychological therapy; I am listening now to different radio stations, to different genres, but mostly I am listening to BPM EDM Radio while driving and that’s my time to decompress – guilty as charged.
