Latin singer-songwriter, Reina Mar, originally hails from New Jersey, and has several live performances under her belt with La Mega & El Amor at the Puerto Rican Day Parade in NYC, Pelham Bay & Split Rock, MET Life Stadium, The Stone Pony, NJ PAC, among others. She has performed her own musical in a TED Talk for Bergen Stages called “To Breathe The Air of Freedom.” Her self-titled debut EP is out now. What inspires you musically?
Reina Mar: I get inspired to create music from my own life experiences and also from hearing other songs that really grab my attention.
A concert you’d like to see by any artist, dead or alive?
Reina Mar: I would give anything to see Mexican Tejano singer Selena in concert if she were still alive. I would also love to see Queen as well.
What’s a song you wish you had written?
Reina Mar: I would have loved to write any of Adele’s songs like “Rolling In The Deep.”
If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing?
Reina Mar: I would take my fitness career to the next level since I am a fitness and nutrition coach.
What is something that not even your fans know about you?
Reina Mar: Not a lot of fans know that I am also an actor, which is what I went to school for. I am also a fitness coach and love kickboxing.
What’s one piece of advice someone gave you when you were starting out that stuck with you?
Reina Mar: “Don’t give up.” Here I am, 7 years later, still fulfilling my music career.
