Kasablanca has released Side A of their debut studio album, ‘Higher Resolution’

Kasablanca has released the first half of its debut album, Higher Resolution, featuring 11 tracks, including seven new ones. Since its 2020 debut, the duo has rapidly gained prominence in the dance music scene, particularly with its hit collaboration “Run” with Lane 8, which has over 40 million streams. Known for its captivating live performances, Kasablanca has played at major venues and festivals worldwide.

In 2023, they sold out their first headline tour but faced challenges when frontman Mickey was diagnosed with cancer, leading to a brief hiatus. They returned with the collaboration “Remission” and have since released three additional singles, including the viral anthem “Breathe,” a cover of The Prodigy’s 1996 hit.

Higher Resolution takes fans on a musical journey, featuring standout tracks like “Clarity,” a crowd favorite at recent shows. Iconic duo Tears for Fears debuts new track ‘Astronaut’ and liver version of ‘Head over Heels’

'Tears for Fears Live (A Tipping Point Film)' is set to premiere worldwide on October 24 and October 26.

Tears For Fears is releasing a new song, “Astronaut,” alongside a live version of their hit “Head Over Heels” on their first official live album, Songs For A Nervous Planet, out October 25. The album includes four new studio tracks and highlights their recent performances from the Tipping Point Tour. The song “Astronaut” reflects themes of alienation and escapism, with Curt Smith describing it as a moment of emotional release. “‘Astronaut’ started out during the sessions for The Tipping Point,” recalls Curt Smith. “Once we realized that we were going to end up doing more than just one new track for this album, Roland sent me the original recording of ‘Astronaut’ and I had forgotten how good of a song it was as it gives you a sense of release. It’s a horrible comparison but it’s the sorbet in between courses where you just can have a little breath and just float away. Forgive the pun but that’s the feeling the song has.”

Smith firthers, “Emotionally it’s about this guy who doesn’t feel he belongs here and wants to be an astronaut floating out into space…a lot of people identify with the emotion of that song, that sense of alienation.”

A concert film titled Tears For Fears Live (A Tipping Point Film) will premiere in over 1,100 cinemas worldwide on October 24 and 26. The film showcases the band’s classic hits and new favorites, emphasizing their evolution as a live act. They will host a three-night live event at Fontainebleau, Las Vegas, from October 30 to November 2, 2024, to celebrate the album and film. Tickets are available now at tearsforfears.com.

On creating the album and film, Smith shares, “We decided to film the live show last year. I think a lot of people don’t know that we are a good live band, actually! They see a duo, and they think it’s going to be two people with a couple of keyboards and a bunch of backing tapes, and that’ll be it. Over the years, we’ve vastly improved since our heyday back in the Eighties.” Roland Orzabal adds, “We’ve never released an official live album, so you could say this is an album forty years in the making.”

Kylie Minogue has announced her new album Tension II, set for release on October 18 via BMG. The collection features 13 tracks, including nine brand-new songs and collaborations with artists like The Blessed Madonna, Orville Peck, Bebe Rexha, Tove Lo, and Sia. The lead single, “Lights Camera Action,” will be released on September 27. Kylie expressed her excitement for the Tension era, stating she wasn’t ready to end it yet.

Kevin Smith has hired Bear McCreary to compose the soundtrack for his new film, The 4:30 Movie

Kevin Smith’s new film, The 4:30 Movie, debuts this week with an original soundtrack by award-winning composer Bear McCreary. Set in the 1980s, the film follows three 16-year-old friends who sneak into movies and learn life lessons when one invites his crush along. The soundtrack, available on all digital platforms via Sparks & Shadows Records, features McCreary’s synth-heavy, nostalgic score. This collaboration marks McCreary’s third with Smith, following their work on Masters of the Universe: Revelation and Masters of the Universe: Revolution. McCreary’s score includes original songs like “Astroblaster and the Beaver Men” and the end-credits track “24 Karat Case of Love,” which McCreary describes as a tribute to the 1980s.

“Bear McCreary made magic with The 4:30 Movie, composing a sonic salute to the ’80s era that’s as much a time tunnel to 1986 as it is a joyful movie score,” says Smith. “The closing banger he and his brother, Brendan, wrote and recorded for the end credits, “24 Karat Case of Love,” is the greatest ’80s radio hit that never happened!”

Adds McCreary, “I was thrilled to join Kevin Smith to score The 4:30 Movie, his nostalgic odyssey back to the 1980s. Inspired by his sweet-natured story, I had a blast writing a synth-soaked score oozing with arpeggios, drum machines, and hair-metal riffs, backed with classic symphonic orchestration. A highlight was collaborating with my brother, Brendan McCreary, on the film’s two original songs, “Astroblaster and the Beaver Men,” which evokes that ’80s futuristic-rock aesthetic, and the film’s end title song, “24 Karat Case of Love,” which feels like a lost synth-pop gem from the neon-tinged, balmy summer of 1986.”

Capitol Records, Universal Music Enterprises, and Peggy Lee Associates have released Peggy Lee: From the Vaults (Vol. 3), the latest in a digital series of rare tracks by Peggy Lee. This volume features 13 previously unreleased or rare songs recorded between 1951 and 1972, including works by Burt Bacharach, Jimmy Webb, and Steve Allen and alternate versions of known tracks. Highlights include “Didn’t We” by Jimmy Webb, which was recorded in 1969 but never included in Lee’s albums, and “I Love You But I Don’t Like You,” a 1951 track co-written by Lee. The collection also includes unreleased jazz standards and non-album singles, with future volumes planned to feature duets and collaborations. Peggy Lee’s catalog will be available for digital streaming through this series.

Of Lee’s recording, Jimmy Webb offers: “The Peggy Lee cover of my song ‘Didn’t We’ is an exquisite reading and a typically well-crafted vocal performance that Ms. Lee was known for. Each word is given special significance, which is a vocal skill rarely heard today. To hear her voice on this lost recording of one of my songs is a warmly welcomed surprise.”

“From the Vaults (Vol. 3)” includes four alternate versions of Peggy Lee’s songs: a rearranged take on “Uninvited Dream” from 1957, a different version of “A Taste of Honey” from her 1963 Grammy-nominated album, an alternate of “Me and My Shadow” from the B-side of her 1969 Grammy-winning single, and a revised version of “I’ll Be Seeing You” from her final Capitol album in 1972.

Shovels & Rope, the acclaimed husband-and-wife duo from Charleston, SC, have released their sixth studio album, Something Is Working Up Above My Head. The duo describes the album as “a bit of a dark beast” but still approachable, reflecting their live sound. Megan Thee Stallion will host the 2024 VMAs on September 11th at UBS Arena

Three-times Grammy®-winning artist Megan Thee Stallion will host the 2024 VMAs live from New York’s UBS Arena on September 11th at 8 PM ET/PT. This will be her first time hosting an award show. Megan, who has had a standout year with her album MEGAN (stream here) and global tour, is also nominated for five VMAs, including “Best Collaboration” and “Best Hip Hop.”

The show will feature performances by artists such as Benson Boone, Camila Cabello, and Halsey, with Katy Perry receiving the Vanguard Award and performing a medley of her hits. Taylor Swift leads the nominations with 10, followed by Post Malone with 9. The VMAs will also acknowledge 9/11 with support for related nonprofits, including 911day.org. On August 30, 2024, Stella Cole, a rising jazz vocalist known for her blend of jazz standards and Great American Songbook classics, released her debut studio album through La Reserve Records. The self-titled album, produced by Grammy-winner Matt Pierson, features a mix of familiar and obscure songs from the Songbook, including covers of “Over the Rainbow” and “Moon River,” as well as a unique rendition of Billie Eilish’s “My Future.”

The album showcases Cole’s distinctive voice and artistic range, working with top industry talent. Stella, who has a strong social media following, aims to introduce timeless music to a new generation.
